Inside the Art World

Throughout history, visual art has served as a form of both personal and shared expression. Visual artists not only change how we see the world, but how we think and feel about ourselves, our societies, and our humanity.

What is the art world?

When we're just starting out, we tend to imagine it as a place we'll eventually earn our way into — once we're "successful enough." But the fact is: if you create, you're already in it.

My name is Stefania Tejada.

I'm from Colombia, based in Paris, and like you, I am an artist.

So we're already in this together.

Now, when I say "the art world," it starts with us — the artists.

We are the origin point.

Every visual artist, from every background, working in every medium, anywhere in the world.

Without what we create, none of the rest exists.

And the rest is vast: gallerists, agents, dealers, organizers of fairs, bienniales and residencies — the list goes on.

An entire ecosystem built around what we do.

All of these players shape how our art moves from us — the creators — into the wider world.

They influence our visibility and recognition, and can help us earn from our work.

And while the art world exists to support creators, let's be honest, it can also feel opaque, overwhelming, and even confusing.

That's exactly why understanding how it works is essential.

Explore our pages on "Inside the Art World" to get that clarity — and to strengthen your own place within the art world.
