I said, What about Breakfast at Tiffany's?
Hello!
Todd Pipes here from Deep Blue Something, and I've got a question from the CLIP community.
The short answer to the first part of the question is generally You can perform live a musical work that someone else wrote and that has already been performed, recorded and released.
Although a license is required most of the time, you won't need to get that permission yourself.
The majority of concert venues should already have blanket licenses from performing rights organizations PROs administer rights and collect royalties on behalf of songwriters and music publishers when their musical works are publicly performed or broadcast.
So, when you play a cover, whether it's Breakfast at Tiffany's or any other song that is not yet in the public domain, they ensure that the rights holders get their due.
